Oral history interview with Loyd Smith, 1980 August 26.

Interview with Loyd Smith concerning his experiences as owner and operator of Loyd's Rentall in Denton, Texas. Smith discusses his family background, farming in north Texas during the Depression and the post-World War II period, his equipment service work in Dallas and Abilene, opening a martinizing shop in Denton, and his investment in the Denton rental business. He also talks about his purchase of a United Rental franchise, the expansion of the contractor phase of the business, financing a new location for the firm, his activity in construction equipment rental, his dealings with local banks, as well as growth in equipment, investment, and sales. Smith shares his views on government regulations, his bookkeeping system, his membership in the American Rental Association, and he comments on personnel.
